County Animal Hospital has been a New City landmark near the intersection of Route 304 and Congers road for more than 65 years. Built in 1880 as the New City School, the building became St. Augustin’s RC Church in 1910. Dr. Arthur Goebel purchased the building from the Church in the middle 1930’s and founded what became County Animal Hospital. ![]() American Animal Hospital Association This hospital is an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). The AAHA is recognized as the world’s leading association for small animal practitioners. To become a hospital member, we completed a 39-page assessment reviewing our hospital’s services and facilities. A trained AAHA practice consultant regularly evaluates our facility, equipment, and care standards. Less than 10 per cent of the animal hospitals in the United States and Canada meet the stringent requirements of AAHA membership. Maintenance of this status since 1970 is indicative of our practice commitment to high quality medical and surgical care for your pet. For more information on the AHAA you can view their website at: http://www.healthypet.com ![]() The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has recognized that there are veterinarians with advanced knowledge and training in certain areas that qualify them to be recognized as specialists, just as there are in human medicine. One of the areas in which the AVMA has recognized veterinarians as specialists is in the area of Clinical Practice. The certified specialist in Clinical Practice has demonstrated a broad base of knowledge and experience in all the areas that affect the health and proper care of their animal patients. The organization recognized by the AVMA to test and certify veterinarians as specialists in Clinical Practice is the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). The certification process requires the candidate to present extensive credentials to the examining board of the ABVP even before qualifying for testing. There is a comprehensive examination process, which tests the veterinarian’s knowledge of current methods of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases in the specialty area. The actual qualification and examination process requires over a year to complete and it may take one or more years to prepare for and pass the examination. Veterinarians who successfully complete the certifying procedure are called diplomates of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. In addition to the initial testing, all diplomates must be re-certified by examination every ten years to maintain specialist status. Doctor Robert Weiner is a diplomate of ABVP and is certified in Canine and Feline Practice. For more information on the ABVP you can view their website at: http://www.abvp.com Continuing Education The field of veterinary medicine is constantly changing.
